For those of you that remember, our dog Oscar had some very invasive hip surgery in the summer/fall of 2006. Prior to that, there were many things he couldn't do because of pain, and then once the surgery was a success, he was just used to not being able to do those things. One of those things was jumping onto things higher than a few inches.
Since he's been going to daycare, they videotape them out in the play area. Well, lo and behold, one day Jeff saw him on the videotape very clearly jumping onto a platform that was probably a foot high. We laughed about it, because we've been duped by Oscar before with his cute helpless act. When he was a puppy, we thought he couldn't go up and down the stairs by himself, so one day we put a treat on every step and worked with him until he went up and down the stairs on his own, making a huge deal out of every step (yes, we're losers). We find out later that he walked up and down the stairs on his own for the dog walker every day, but knew we would carry him, so he didn't bother for us. Nice. Who said dogs aren't smart?
I feel a little less stupid about the jumping. We can now get him to jump on the bed on his own, but it does look like a bit of a struggle for the little guy. Now if I could just get him to jump in the car on his own, we'd be all set. 80 lbs is a bit of a load to lift all the time!
