Boston/Maine trip

We headed up to Boston and Maine for our vacation this year and to celebrate Riley Kate's first birthday (her birthday is another post). Grandpa Jack and Grandma Julie were kind enough to host us, Uncle Johnny, Grandpa John and Grandma Toni.

We got to spend quality time with Kristin and Ben and got to show Johnny the sights of Beantown. He'd never been, so it was fun to show him around.

We started out Saturday night with Uncle Frank and Aunt Barbara's 50th anniversary party at the South Boston Yacht Club. Right on the water and it was a beautiful night. Sunday we got a nice tour of Boston Harbor thanks to Uncle Tom and Aunt Anne and their boat. Riley Kate wasn't a huge fan of her life jacket, so she spent most of her time in the cabin playing and snoozing.

Monday we headed to the Public Gardens. Riley got to ride the Swan Boats with Grandma and Grandpa, and apparently screamed most of the time (Mommy and Daddy stayed behind). Then we headed over to see the Make Way for Ducklings statues, which are from one of my favorite books that Riley has. Aunt Anne got it for her since it was her favorite book as a little girl.

We sent RK home with Grandma and Grandpa after lunch, and Johnny, Jeff and I headed out. We had intended on taking a tour of Fenway, but the tour was sold out. All was not lost, as Jeff started emailing former coworkers; lo and behold, walking by us was a former coworker who agreed to sneak us into the park so Johnny could see it and take some pictures. After, we headed over to a new bar with a window into the park and had a drink. I'm guessing it's insane on game days!

Tuesday we headed up to Maine and it was rainy. It was rainy when we visited in 2006 as well. Hmm.....

But anywho, Wednesday my dad and Toni arrived and we took a boat ride since the weather was nice. We had a different life jacket for RK this time and she seemed to not be as horrified. (Not happy either but I'll take less horrified.) It was a beautiful sunset cruise and we all enjoyed it.

Thursday was a nice day, so we headed to Bridgeton for some lunch and a little shopping. Friday, it RAINED. Go figure. So we headed to Freeport for some lunch and a little shopping at LL Bean. Riley Kate is all setup for fall with a fleece vest (so cute I can't stand it) and a little windbreaker (also the cutest thing ever).

Saturday, the sun came out. Coincidentally, the day we headed back to Boston. We got to sit on the boat for awhile and let RK pretend she was driving, and then Jill, Mike and Sloane showed up for their week in Maine and we headed back to Boston so we could catch our early morning flight.

Here are a few pics from the trip:

First time on a boat. Didn't quite have her sea legs yet. :)
