I had a fantastic weekend in Boston with Kristin. We fit a lot in, but found time to relax too.
I arrived Thursday night, and we went to dinner with her neighbors Nicole and Jarrad (this was after we met the super hot contractor that might be doing work on their condo. This is Kristin's future love. She'll probably kill me for writing that), at Amrhein's in South Boston.
Friday, we took part in Boston's Spa Week, during which participating salons offer services for $50 that would normally be much more than that. We opted to go to the Daryl Christopher Salon on Newbury Street to get organic/vegan facials and manicures/pedicures. Everything except the nail polish was all natural, and the people that work there were great.
After the spa, we did lunch at Ciao Bella on Newbury. Service was horrible, food wasn't bad. We fit a lot of good people watching in during the long wait for the food. It was marathon weekend, the Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins were playing, and it was an unseasonably warm 75 degrees, so there were people EVERYWHERE.
After lunch, we did some shopping, and got makeovers at MAC. Luckily we have similar coloring, so we're able to share the color tips we learned from both makeovers.
That night, we were pooped from walking around all day, so we ordered dinner in and then watched the worst movie we've ever seen courtesy of Kristin's NetFlix stash. A Home at the End of the World; if only the world had ended before this movie was done. I don't know what we expected from a movie with Colin Farrell in it, but this was even worse than I thought it could be. Save yourself the pain and never see this movie.
Saturday, we got up bright and early and walked Castle Island in South Boston. It was a beautiful morning and tons of people were out. Then, we got ready and went for my first dim sum experience at China Pearl in Chinatown. It seriously reminded me of some horrible wedding at a Holiday Inn or something, but the food was amazing. If you've never had dim sum, basically, the servers walk around with carts of food and as they walk by, you decide if you want anything from that cart to eat. We had a good variety of food, and I trusted Kristin on all the food choices since she'd been there before.
After lunch, we literally walked the city of Boston (ok, it felt like it). We did some shopping, going to Downtown Crossing and then to Faneuil Hall, where we were overcome by the tourists and nice weather enthusiasts. We then headed back to Kristin's to relax before dinner.
We had dinner in Boston's South End with Jessie, Joe's fiancee, a couple of her friends, and Allison, a former co-worker of Jeff's, and now Kristin's friend. We went to Mela for Indian food, and it was amazing. Dinner and drinks for 6 people (well, drinks for 5) was only $40 per person, which was amazingly affordable. After dinner, Allison, Kristin and I went out for drinks (I am quite the water oficionado of all restaurants/bars in Boston right now) at Brownstone. Interesting place, definitely an older crowd than the crowded Cleary's next door.
Sunday, got up, had lunch at a favorite, the Farragut House in Southie, then off to the airport where I had the pleasure of a delayed flight. Yes, the one time I'm not paranoid and don't check the flight status, it's delayed for an hour. Boooo.
I made it safe and sound to Chicago for Leg 2 of my travels. It's going to be a busy few days, then I'm off to Florida, then home.
