She's a month old already!

A month has flown by, but we've made it! Some comments on the past month:

  • Had some weight issues for Miss Riley, but we're finally gaining ground! Last weight check was 7lbs 3.5oz! She's now steadily gaining one ounce per day.
  • I'm finally feeling mostly recovered after my c-section. My pregnancy weight is all gone, but thanks to nature, I have an oh so attractive stomach pouch that is preventing me from wearing my pre-pregnancy jeans. Let's hope it goes away soon!
  • The animals are adjusting well. Oscar is very protective of Riley, and SURPRISE: the cats haven't tried to steal Riley's breath, contrary to what my grandmothers say. However, I'm sure it will change once Riley is of tail pulling age, at which time we'll bug their litter box to be forewarned of any breath stealing plots they may be hatching.
  • Jeff has come up with every silly song he can think of to put the name Riley in, and sings them to her at every diaper change or when she's fussy. Don't hold your breath, somehow I don't think he'll be getting a record deal out of it.
  • I SUCK at putting her in the car seat. Jeff is the car seat master.
  • It is funny at 3am to hear Jeff over the monitor pleading with Riley to stop crying or to stop kicking her legs so he can fasten her diaper. I often hear "Riley, pleeeeeeeeease" and "Riley stooooooooop" and in my sleep deprived haze, it always makes me smile.
  • I've almost quit breast-feeding several times, but it's mostly when it's 2am and she's eaten every hour on the hour since 10pm preventing me from getting any sleep at all and I've collapsed into a puddle of tears (poor Jeff). I have revised my goal, though. I initially wanted to go 6 months, but now I'm shooting for the end of my maternity leave. It seems more practical. I've also invested $35 in something called a Hooter Hider (no joke, that's the name) to allow me to breastfeed in 'public' and be covered, so I have to get my money's worth out of it!
  • Riley is sleeping in her room in her own crib, and has been since we came home. The monitor we have is ridiculously sensitive though, so I can hear her breathing without issue when I'm being paranoid that she's going to die in her sleep.
  • We are still buying the biodegradable diapers and can still manage to pay our mortgage, for all the naysayers out there. :)
  • The biggest thing is that even though I often want to drive a blunt object through my eye when I hear her screaming over the monitor in the middle of the night, that feeling always goes away when I go into her nursery and hold her. She's just a sweet little angel, and we're so blessed to have her. :)
And now I leave you with a couple of pictures. Last night, I left the room for a few seconds, and when I came back, I saw this. If you can't see it well enough in the first picture, look at the close-up picture. Yes, that is her sock that she somehow kicked off her foot and it landed perfectly placed next to her cheek. No clue how she pulled that off!
