Nickel Creek

We went to see one of the final shows for the band Nickel Creek last night at Stubb's. The only reason I'd heard of them was because a song was pre-loaded onto my ipod when I bought it. However, our friend Erik convinced us we should go see the show with him and our friend Christa, so off we went. It turned out to be a great show, but as far as classifying them in a genre, it was a little difficult. They started out with some Celtic music, had some bluegrass, and then into something described on their website as 'progressive acoustic' (this included a cover of Britney Spears "Toxic"; freaking hysterical when combined with mandolins and fiddles). I was further confused by the crowd. Some looked like they were better suited for a Phish concert, but whatever.

The evening also gave me a chance to indulge in my new restaurant obsession: mac n cheese. I go through these phases; it used to be if there was chicken fried steak on the menu, I was ordering it. Then there was the fettucine alfredo phase. Now I'm moved on to the less sophisticated mac n cheese. Last night's mac n cheese was from Moonshine, and it was ok, but not the best. My favorite mac n cheese I've discovered so far is at Lambert's, an upscale bbq place here in town. It's baked fresh to order, so when it comes out, it has that awesome layer of baked cheese on top. Yum.
